French Dictée Application

This is an application for practicing French spelling. I worked with Claude code to build it for my daughter who is in 4th grade (CM1) at a French International School. She has loved it so far.

At her school the teacher gives her a list of words to practice every week. Since I don't speak French, I always struggle to help her with her words. Last year her teacher was nice enough to send home recordings for us. This year I thought I'd have technology help! I have some coding knowledge, but this would have taken months for me to figure out on my own.

How to use the application

There are two ways to use this application: download the app for android or open it in the webpage. If you are interested in the app please read below!

Adding and Removing Words

Word List: The application comes with 8 words built in. You can delete these easily. To add and delete words press "Gérer le mots" (manage words). There you can manually add words. You can also take a picture of the list you have to add words automatically. Make sure it is in good lighting and clear. You WILL have to check this list and may have to edit it. It is an easy process.

App Modes

This app has 3 modes:

  1. Lettres mélangées - Mixed Letters - the correct letters are present and you have to drag them into the correct spot. The word is spoken by your system voice.

  2. Le bon mot - The right word - This is multiple choice. The voice says the word and you have to choose the right spelling.

  3. Dictée sur papier - Spell on paper - This is where the system will read a word and you can spell it on paper or directly on the app. The system will tell you yes or no and you can correct it. You can ask for the correct answer after three incorrect answers.

The link above has installation instructions. If you want the app, click the download link below. This is only available for android. When you download it you will need to change your settings to allow unknown apps to install. Once it downloads and you click install you will have to click on advanced and bypass the playstore warning. Pease refer to the page above for more detailed instructions.
