Family Cookbook

This is an app for keeping a family's recipes in one place. I built it with Claude Code so recipes stop getting lost to scattered texts, printed-out pages, and handwritten cards tucked away in a drawer somewhere.

Everyone in the family gets their own section. You can type a recipe in by hand, scan a handwritten or printed recipe card with your phone's camera and let the app read the text for you, or paste in a link to a recipe you found online and it'll pull in the title, ingredients, and steps automatically. Recipes scale on the fly if you're cooking for 12 instead of 4, and if you like a recipe someone else added, you can copy it into your own section — from then on it's a fully independent copy, so editing yours never touches theirs.

It also supports more than one family cookbook per person, so you're not locked into just one. Want a separate cookbook with your in-laws, or a group of friends? You can belong to both and switch between them.

How to use the application

There are two ways to use this application: download the app for Android or open it in the webpage. If you are interested in the app please read below!

Features

  1. Shared cookbook - Join a family's cookbook with an invite code or link. Everyone sees everyone's recipes, organized by who added them, with search and filters by author, tag, or ingredient.

  2. Scan a recipe - Take a photo of a handwritten or printed recipe card and the app reads the text for you, right on your device.

  3. Import from a URL - Paste a link to a recipe on the web and it imports the title, ingredients, and steps automatically.

  4. Scale servings - Change the serving size and every ingredient quantity recalculates for you.

  5. Copy to your own section - Found a recipe you like from another family member? Copy it to your section — it's yours from then on, independent of the original.

  6. More than one cookbook - Belong to more than one family's cookbook at once and switch between them.

If you want the app, click the download link below. This is only available for Android. When you download it you'll need to change your settings to allow installing apps from unknown sources, and click through the Play Protect warning when you install it.
