Times-Table Quest
My daughter needed to practice her times tables, and she likes games a lot more than flash cards. So I built her a small role-playing game with Claude Code, in the style of the old Final Fantasy games, where every attack is a multiplication problem.
How to play
It works on phones, tablets and computers. On a phone, turn it sideways. On an iPhone or iPad you can tap Share → "Add to Home Screen" so it opens full screen like an app. Progress is saved in the browser on that device.
How it works
You pick a hero (a Knight, Wizard, Ranger or Princess), give them a name, and walk across a world map. Each region has three battles, a treasure chest and a boss, and each one works on different tables:
- Meadow of Ones - ×1, ×2, ×3 and ×10
- Crystal Caves - ×4, ×5 and ×6
- Dragon Peaks - ×7, ×8 and ×9
- Whispering Woods - ×6, ×7 and ×8
- Frost Fjord - ×6 to ×9
- Shadow Castle - everything mixed, and the final boss, the Muddle King
Built for learning, not stress
- Nothing is timed. Kids can take as long as they need on each problem.
- A right answer is an attack. Three in a row is a combo that does double damage.
- A wrong answer is a chance to learn. The monster hits back, the app shows the answer as rows of dots with skip-counting, and that fact comes back a couple of problems later and more often after that.
- There is no game over. Losing a battle just sends you back to camp with a free potion.
- The Spellbook shows a 10×10 grid of bronze, silver and gold stars, so you can see at a glance which facts still need practice.
Winning battles earns gold to spend in the shop on potions, shields, hint scrolls, outfits, and pets that follow your hero around and help in battle.
I hope your child enjoys it!
